Questions & answers webinar

Do you think companies are in general open to review applications when they don't have an open position?
Yes, especially if you connect with an in-house recruiter they should keep an open mind. Some companies even have a separate page and/or e-mail address set up for open applications.

Can you say a word about arts & culture sector?
The arts and culture sector is very strong in the Netherlands, with lots of international film festivals, dance academies, design expos etc. This industry is suffering at the moment hand in hand with the tourism and hospitality sector due to COVID-19 though.

Can you recommend some site that offers part-time jobs for a few hours per hour such as ""entering data in Excel"", press clipping etc.?
The regular job sites should offer part-time possibilities as well, and normally at every position it’s indicated whether it’s a full-time or part-time job.

Do you think that young women (because of the expectation of having family) have disadvantage on Dutch job market?
Absolutely not 😊 The Netherlands is a very liberal country and if you look at Dutch families they normally have 2-3 children in a household. Women tend to benefit from having a “mama dag” once returning to work together with a great work-life balance.

Do you have some advice for a job interview for a career path change?
Try to focus on transferable skills. I would emphasize that even though you don’t have experience in that specific area you are a fast learner and ready to learn new skills every day.

Do I have to include the gap in working in the CV? Maybe fill it with what I was busy with?
This is a rather sensitive and personal question, depends also why you had that gap. My personal recommendation would be to include a sentence or two on why you have the gap but wouldn’t put too much emphasis on it.

How successful would I be to apply for a job I don't have previous experience with, but know for sure I have adequate skills to work in the new job (More like a career switch).
This also depends on what kind of jobs you are applying for. If the role that you apply for requires 10 years of experience but you are a starter I don’t see a lot of chance. However, if you are a job starter and you apply for starter opportunities then it can work out for sure.

Do you have any job offer at Adams recruitment?
If you meant whether we have an opening within our company then I’m sorry to let you know that at the moment we don’t have any openings.

Regarding work status, how difficult is it for Non EEA citizen looking for visa sponsorship. What steps can we take to be more attractive for the Dutch market?
The highly skilled immigrant visa has some criteria that you need to fulfil in order to apply for it. You can read further information on it on the IND website: https://ind.nl/en/work/Pages/default.aspx
I am not sure what kind of experience you have or what kind of jobs you would like to apply for, so it’s difficult to say how you could make your CV more attractive for the Dutch job market.

How long due to the current situation is normal to expect for the hiring process from companies to take place?
Most companies wrap up their processes in 2-3 weeks but this can vary. The general trend is to have 2-3 interviews and maybe a personality or other cognitive tests as part of the process.

Also is it common companies never reply back after submitting an application?
Sometimes unfortunately this can happen, especially if you apply for a role that had a lot of applicants. However, with every application you should get access to the recruiter’s contact details as well so feel free to take the proactive approach and contact the company for feedback!

Is there a demand in the social sector (pedagogy, social worker)? From my experience Dutch is almost always required on a good level, since you often work with helping people :)
That is indeed true, if you work in this sector most likely they require a good level of Dutch. However, if you work with smaller kids in daycare or international schools you could have a higher chance with applying and not speaking Dutch.

For Dutch speaking jobs is B2 really enough of do we need to follow another course after which is business Dutch?
This depends on the level of Dutch they require and whether you would be using the language on a day-to-day basis for actively speaking with clients or it’s only for having a conversation with the colleagues.

Is sending the cover letter in English and Dutch a possibility to apply?
If the job requires Dutch as a language I would recommend sending the motivation letter in Dutch. Otherwise if it’s an English speaking job then English.
